Hova-Bator Incubator Instructions for Bacterial Test Kits

The Hova-Bator incubator was designed for use with poultry eggs, but serves as a very effective and inexpensive incubator for the Bacterial Test Kits ColiPlate™ and WaterCheck™.

LOCATION
The location of the incubator is important for successful operation. A room temperature from 20°C to 27°C (70°F to 80°F) is ideal, and fresh air without drafts is necessary. A well ventilated basement room is often just right. Be sure no direct sunlight strikes the incubator and that it is on a level surface.

SETUP

Step 1 – Unpack the incubator from box. Use the thermostat bracket as a handle to remove the incubator top from inside the bottom, where it is packed for shipping.

Step 2 – Discard plastic liner, then place wire floor on bottom half of incubator.
OPERATION

Step 3 – Thread wing nut onto adjusting screw. Thread adjusting screw assembly into slot until enough of shaft is visible on inside of incubator to accept wafer. Thread wafer onto adjusting screw until it stops, then turn adjusting screw until thermostat button clicks. Back wafer off 4 turns and plug incubator into wall outlet.

Step 4 – Turn adjusting screw counter-clockwise to increase temperature or clockwise to decrease.

Step 5 – Turn adjusting screw counter-clockwise to increase temperature or clockwise to decrease.

Step 6 – Adjust the temperature control screw to obtain a temperature of 35°C to 38°C (95°F to 100°F) at the level of the test kits. The red light should go off when the desired temperature is reached. When the temperature is reached, tighten the wing nut to secure the setting. Check temperature periodically to ensure temperature is maintained.
